Canvas To Concept – Series 2
Welcome to Canvas to Concept, a twice monthly series where I dive into the connection between art and interior design. As a designer and decorator, I find endless inspiration in artwork, whether it’s a painting, print, photograph, sculpture, or abstract form, and I’m always fascinated by how colours, textures, and composition can completely transform a space.
Each fortnight, I’ll choose a piece that resonates with me and translate its visual language into a concept board, showing how artistic elements shape the mood, depth, and personality of an interior. The right piece of art doesn’t just complement a space, it grounds it, creating a sense of cohesion, balance, and purpose.
This series is more than just a creative exercise, it’s a celebration of artistic exploration. I love working with a range of styles, and this process lets me discover and highlight incredible artists and products along the way. Experimenting with different aesthetics brings me so much joy, and I can’t wait to share this journey with you.
To make the experience even more immersive, we’ve woven in a custom intro composition that sets the tone for each concept. Through animation, a static board comes to life, creating a dynamic visual story. And with an atmospheric soundtrack, each piece becomes even more engaging, deepening the connection between art, mood, and design.
Join me each fortnight to see how design and space can be shaped through an artistic lens!
Ashley Longshore is a pop-meets-fine-art powerhouse known for her fearless use of colour, wit, and cultural icons. Based in New Orleans, she creates larger-than-life works that celebrate feminine strength, bold self-expression, and joyful rebellion. Her work is vibrant, humorous, and always unapologetically glamorous.
I chose Audrey Diptych with Poppies and Monarch Swarm for this week’s concept because it’s impossible not to be drawn into the world it creates. The classic silhouette of Audrey Hepburn, crowned with a flurry of blooms and butterflies, struck me as both serene and alive, a celebration of timeless beauty with a fresh, fearless twist.
In translating this into a living room design, I leaned into its dramatic colour palette and layered energy. Think deep fuchsia velvet, playful shapes, golden accents, and bold, unexpected pairings. I wanted the space to feel joyful and alive, just like the artwork—elevated but with a wink.
The accompanying intro composition brings Audrey into a dreamy natural realm, rooted in nature and transformation, those butterflies aren’t just decoration, they’re symbols of growth, change, and beauty in motion.
This concept is a reminder that a room can do more than just look pretty, it can tell a story, spark a mood, and make you feel something every time you walk in.
Inspired by what you see? Let’s bring your space to life through thoughtful, art-driven design. Whether you’re starting fresh or looking to reimagine an existing space, We’d love to help shape an interior that’s as unique and layered as you are.
