With the beach just moments away, the vision for this home was to create interiors that captured the ease and serenity of coastal living—without falling into cliché. The brief called for a home that felt lighter, fresher, and more cohesive, balancing practicality with a relaxed sophistication that reflected its seaside setting.
The transformation began in the kitchen, a space that had remained largely untouched since the home was built in the late 1990s. While an initial concept explored a more significant reconfiguration, a more considered approach ultimately proved the stronger solution—retaining the existing footprint to preserve flow, avoid unnecessary structural intervention, and direct the budget toward the elements that would deliver the greatest impact.
Rather than undertaking a full demolition, the kitchen was thoughtfully reinvented through layered cosmetic upgrades. Refaced cabinetry, new stone surfaces, updated hardware, appliances, and a refreshed splashback transformed the space, while custom timber battens wrapping the curved island introduced warmth, texture, and a stronger architectural presence. Paired with tactile detailing and a restrained coastal palette, the result feels entirely renewed without excess.
Throughout the broader home, the palette was softened and refined to create greater cohesion. Fresh warm white walls amplified natural light, while a dramatic deep blue feature wall introduced depth and a subtle sense of intimacy through the entry and adjoining living spaces.
A thoughtful mix of retained and newly introduced furnishings ensured the transformation felt both practical and personal. Existing pieces that still served the home beautifully were integrated seamlessly, while carefully selected additions introduced softness, comfort, and renewed energy. Layered blues and sea-glass tones quietly referenced the surrounding coastline, creating a sense of connection to place without becoming overly thematic.
Upstairs, the bedrooms were refreshed to continue the story of calm retreat. Softer finishes, fresh textiles, and a lighter palette brought renewed warmth and comfort, transforming previously tired spaces into restful, inviting sanctuaries.
The finished home feels relaxed, cohesive, and quietly elevated—a contemporary coastal reinvention that captures the spirit of its location while remaining deeply liveable and enduring.
"Not having the confidence to go it alone, we were seeking a professional design consultant who could guide our colour choices, decorating selections and renovation ideas. We wanted our home to be a sophisticated, light, airy space with well-coordinated and blended rooms. We put our trust in the House of Allure Interiors & Design to lead us through a daunting process for paint, blinds, carpet and décor items etc. Lisa’s integrated plan gave us the confidence to move forward and invest in our living spaces, incorporating our own pieces together with new additions that we could not possibly imagine sourcing. The result was a beautiful individual masterpiece for us. We are very happy to recommend Lisa for providing the vision and support that has lifted our home to a whole new level."
