Designed as a complete transformation of a once dark and uninspiring primary bedroom, this project centred on creating a space that felt calm, restorative, and deeply personal—a retreat designed for rest, retreat, and quiet renewal.
The existing room lacked both warmth and atmosphere, prompting a complete rethink of the palette, materials, and overall mood. Lighter flooring introduced an immediate sense of freshness, helping to amplify natural light and create a softer, more expansive feel throughout the space. Layered window treatments—including custom plantation shutters, sheer drapery, and blackout linings—allowed the room to shift effortlessly between light-filled mornings and cocooned evenings.
A particularly meaningful element of the project was the inclusion of the client’s late mother’s antique dressing table. Rather than treating it as a piece that no longer belonged, we thoughtfully reimagined it to sit comfortably within the renewed scheme—refreshing its finish, updating the hardware, and giving it a renewed sense of relevance while preserving its emotional significance. A botanical wallcovering behind the piece created a quiet focal moment, grounding it within the room and celebrating its story.
The broader design language balanced softness with understated structure. Clean-lined timber furnishings introduced warmth against the lighter palette, while layered textures brought depth and tactility. A geometric rug anchored the room, with carefully curated textiles, artwork, and organic forms adding subtle visual interest without disrupting the overall sense of calm.
The finished space feels light, serene, and quietly sophisticated—a deeply personal retreat that honours the past while creating a fresh and restorative new chapter.
