Set within Bowden’s industrial-inspired urban landscape, this newly built townhouse offered the perfect blank canvas to create a home that felt distinctly tailored to its owner—a modern bachelor seeking a space that was equal parts practical, understated, and effortlessly refined.
Spanning the open-plan living spaces and primary bedroom, the brief centred around a minimalist aesthetic with warmth and personality, balancing clean architectural lines with richer, moodier layers that would soften the new-build feel.
The design direction drew from an industrial palette of leather, timber, concrete, marble, and blackened metal, tempered with tactile finishes and thoughtful moments of luxury. A restrained material language ensured the interiors remained uncluttered and purposeful, with every element selected to feel intentional rather than excessive.
A defining feature of the home became the client’s guitar collection—rather than storing these away, we transformed them into a striking architectural moment, displaying them as functional art along a prominent wall spanning the living and dining zones. This singular gesture brought personality, storytelling, and an unmistakably personal edge to the otherwise pared-back aesthetic.
Within the open-plan living area, a moody feature wall introduced depth and cohesion across the interconnected kitchen, dining, and lounge spaces, creating a stronger sense of intimacy within the expansive footprint. Layered furnishings balanced masculine restraint with comfort—rich leather upholstery, warm oak, graphic textiles, black metal detailing, and soft sheer drapery working together to create a space that feels both grounded and elevated.
In the dining and kitchen areas, sculptural forms and robust materials reinforced the design language, maintaining continuity while ensuring the spaces remained practical for everyday living and entertaining alike.
The primary bedroom continued the same refined approach, working thoughtfully around the client’s existing timber furniture collection. Rather than replacing quality pieces unnecessarily, we elevated the room through layered textiles, tailored window treatments, subtle texture, and curated artwork that paid quiet homage to the client’s passion for music.
The result is a home that feels confidently personal, modern, and effortlessly liveable—a considered urban retreat that reflects both the architecture and the personality of its owner.
