“where your style comes to life”

Canvas To Concept – Series 1

Welcome to Canvas to Concept, a twice monthly series where I dive into the connection between art and interior design. As a designer and decorator, I find endless inspiration in artwork, whether it’s a painting, print, photograph, sculpture, or abstract form, and I’m always fascinated by how colours, textures, and composition can completely transform a space.

Each week, I’ll choose a piece that resonates with me and translate its visual language into a concept board, showing how artistic elements shape the mood, depth, and personality of an interior. The right piece of art doesn’t just complement a space, it grounds it, creating a sense of cohesion, balance, and purpose.

This series is more than just a creative exercise, it’s a celebration of artistic exploration. I love working with a range of styles, and this process lets me discover and highlight incredible artists and products along the way. Experimenting with different aesthetics brings me so much joy, and I can’t wait to share this journey with you.

To make the experience even more immersive, we’ve woven in a custom intro composition that sets the tone for each concept. Through animation, a static board comes to life, creating a dynamic visual story. And with an atmospheric soundtrack, each piece becomes even more engaging, deepening the connection between art, mood, and design.

Join me each fortnight to see how design and space can be shaped through an artistic lens!

Dina Broadhurst is an Australian contemporary artist known for her striking digital collages that blend photography, fashion, and mixed media. Her work is all about layering, playing with luxury, femininity, and nature to create pieces that feel both bold and intimate.

For the first piece in my Canvas to Concept series, I chose “Play On My Mind Lavender Orchids” because it felt like the perfect starting point. The soft lavender orchids cascading over the subject’s face add a sense of mystery and dreaminess, while the deep green malachite rings bring contrast and strength. It’s a piece that’s both delicate and powerful, which is exactly the kind of balance I love to bring into my designs.

When translating this artwork into an interior concept, I wanted to mirror its layers, mood, and richness. The peacock, chosen as the spirit animal for this concept, captures that same regal, vibrant, and captivating energy. I pulled in soft organic shapes, bold textures, and hints of metallic’s to create a space that feels just as luxurious and expressive as the artwork itself.

For me, art isn’t just decoration, it’s the starting point for a whole story. I love how this piece inspired an interior that feels just as layered and dynamic. Can’t wait to share more as this series unfolds!
