With its proximity to the beach, the owners of this home desired spaces that captured the essence of the sea. Our involvement began with the update of the existing kitchen, which had remained untouched since the property was built in the late 90s. The initial plan was to change the layout to accommodate a freestanding island, but we advised against it, as it would disrupt the seamless flow of the space and require extensive modifications, exceeding the client’s budget. Instead, we proposed a more cost-effective solution: retaining the existing footprint and focusing on refacing the cabinetry, replacing the benchtop, handles, sink, splashback, and appliances. To inject the desired visual impact, we suggested timber battens to clad the front of the curved island, which we painted to match the cabinetry. This feature, along with the addition of white fish scale tiles, introduced texture and interest to the predominantly white kitchen.

The entire property received a fresh coat of warm white paint, creating an open and airy atmosphere throughout. However, the entry wall, visible from both levels, was painted in a rich, dark hue of blue to infuse the living spaces with an intimate feeling. Existing furniture pieces, such as the dining table and chairs, sideboards, and entertainment unit, were incorporated into the new scheme, as they were white and complemented the overall design. To replace the sofa, we specified two new 2.5-seater sofas with headrests and recliners in a soft teal color, providing a vibrant pop that added personality. A vibrant graphic rug was introduced in the lounge room, incorporating the beautiful blues and teals seen throughout the space.

The bedrooms also received a mini makeover, with plush wool carpet installed in the upstairs area where the three bedrooms were located. The guest bedroom was painted in a soft blue tone, while the client’s existing timber bed frame in that room received a fresh coat of white paint, lending it a lighter and more refreshed feel. New bed linen and accessories were introduced to rejuvenate the tired spaces and enhance a relaxed, preppy coastal aesthetic.

The result is a home that truly embodies the coastal vibe, capturing the essence of the nearby beach and infusing each space with a sense of tranquility and a touch of seaside charm.
