Our team was engaged to transform and decorate the living room of this newly built home, strategically positioned directly across from the dining room and kitchen. The initial state of the room featured only a single uninspiring sofa, failing to do justice to the room’s generous proportions and the presence of a skylight. Our concept for the space is dubbed “Coastal Luxe Living Room”, combining coastal aesthetics with contemporary luxury.

Considering the client’s affinity for mid-century modern lines and their desire for a coastal ambiance, we embarked on the task to create a space that could comfortably seat around 8 people. Two neutral-toned 3-seater sofas with mid-century modern lines were positioned on opposing ends of the room, creating a balanced and inviting layout.

To anchor the space, we introduced a transitional rug washed in soothing blues, echoing the coastal theme. Adding a touch of opulence, we placed two swivel armchairs in deep blue velvet. These armchairs, with their strong lines and playful swivel base, contributed to the eclectic personality of the room. A textured wallpaper in deep beige tone adorned one focal wall behind the armchairs, subtly complementing the luxurious upholstery. Above the armchairs, a mirror with a brass frame featuring interlocking squares added a touch of elegance.

Between the swivel armchairs, a timber oak side table with a rattan base provided a practical yet stylish surface. The wall above one of the sofas was adorned with two large timber-framed canvas art pieces depicting a painterly ocean scene. On the opposite side, two smaller timber-framed artworks featuring coral-like motifs adorned the wall.

In the heart of the room, an oval oak top coffee table took centre stage. Its multi-spoke black metal base drew inspiration from the adjacent dining room’s legs, establishing visual continuity. Adding further interest, a multi-bulb floor lamp with glass shades and a black metal frame occupied one corner, while a round side table with a white marble top and a black metal base held a table lamp with a grey marble base, linen shade, and brass accent in the other.

Two sets of decorative cushions were introduced, each contributing a unique touch. One set featured beaded embroidered geometric patterns, while the other set showcased an abstract snow leopard print in blue and ivory.

In our styling, we curated elements that harmonised with the chosen design components, culminating in a contemporary, curated, warm, and inviting living room. Balancing sophistication with a touch of whimsy, the room embodied a sense of luxurious comfort while embracing the coastal allure envisioned by the client.
