When our clients relocated from the Blue Mountains to Adelaide to be closer to family, they arrived with a meaningful collection of furnishings, art, and objects accumulated over time. Their newly purchased city townhouse, however, felt like a blank white shell—functional, but entirely lacking warmth, character, or personality.
Rather than beginning from scratch, our approach centred on thoughtfully layering the old with the new—honouring the pieces they already loved while introducing carefully considered additions to create a home that felt refined, personal, and deeply lived in.
Working with their existing sofa, dining table, rugs, coffee table, and striking art collection, we curated the missing layers through bespoke storage, decorative furnishings, lighting, and window treatments that brought warmth and cohesion to the interiors.
One of the most transformative spaces was a former home office, reimagined as an intimate wine room for the husband’s extensive collection. Anchored by existing wine fridges and a pair of armchairs, the room evolved into a moody jewel box, wrapped in metallic botanical wallpaper and grounded by a dramatic charcoal ceiling. A cobalt mahogany bar cabinet with brass inlay and mother-of-pearl detailing, modern lighting, and a bold floral rug completed the richly layered scheme.
The kitchen required both aesthetic and functional reinvention. The original space felt dated and lacked the practicality the clients needed for everyday living. We reconfigured the layout to improve flow, introduced smarter integrated storage solutions, created generous bench space for two cooks, and added a new servery window connecting seamlessly to the balcony. A sophisticated putty-khaki cabinetry palette was paired with soft off-white upper joinery and stone surfaces, creating a timeless scheme that feels both grounded and elegant.
In the primary bedroom, Schumacher’s Ming Cherry Blossom wallpaper in aqua set a softer tone, bringing femininity and calm to the space. A tailored striped upholstered bedhead introduced contrast and structure, ensuring the room felt polished rather than overly delicate.
The finished home feels layered, warm, and unmistakably personal—a sophisticated city residence that now reflects the lives, memories, and collections of the people who call it home.
“After moving into a 20 year old town house which was drastically in need of a makeover we contacted Lisa at House of Allure. Following her visits and consultation she provided us with professional advice on colour, design, furniture and accessories. The process was inclusive of our wishes combined with Lisa’s expert advice on options available to us. The resultant makeover has delivered a home of which we are very proud and one which we enjoy sharing with friends and family who cannot believe the change. Lisa’s professionalism was outstanding and she was always open to my views and minor changes from me. She always respected my point of view although in most cases Lisa’s design sense and taste were spot on. We would have absolutely no hesitation recommending Lisa.”
